ROER4D weekly update – 7 July 2017

IT for Change co-facilitates workshop on OER in Rajpur
IT for Change, the research team behind Sub-project 5, was invited by State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT) Chattisgarh and the Connected Learning Initiative (CLIx) program of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, to co-facilitate a workshop on OER for a select group of teachers and teacher educators. In the workshop, which took place June 27-30 at SCERT, Raipur, Gurumurthy Kasinathan and Ranjani facilitated three sessions covering the following topics: Kinds of OER, the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge framework, and Collaborative “Professional Learning Communities” based models of OER adoption (this last topic being the specific subject matter of ROER4D Sub-project 5’s research). In their feedback, participants emphasized that they felt a strong need for contextualising existing OER for their local school contexts. The IT for Change team explained and demonstrated the possibilities of the use of Free and Open Source authoring and editing applications for creating and re-purposing OER to suit local curricular requirements.

Webinar recording: Barriers to OER in Indian Higher Education
The Global OER Graduate Network (GO-GN)’s monthly webinar hosted ROER4D Sub-project 3 Lead Researcher Sanjaya Mishra, who discussed perspectives on the barriers to OER as perceived by the teachers in the Indian Higher Education system. A recording of the webinar is available.

Applications for OpenCon now open
Each year, OpenCon, a conference and community for students and early career academic professionals interested in advancing Open Access, Open Education and Open Data, brings together a diverse group of participants, with travel scholarships available to most participants. For this reason, attendance at OpenCon 2017 is by application only. Applications for the conference, which will be held 11-13 November in Berlin, Germany are currently open.

OE Global 2018 call for proposals
OE Global 2018 will take place from 24-26 April 2018 in Delft, the Netherlands, hosted by the Open Education Consortium and Delft University of Technology. The theme of OE Global 2018 is Transforming Education through Open. The call for proposals is currently open with applications due by 23 October 2017.
